The 1983 Mercury Cougar was part of the seventh generation of the model. It featured a sleeker, more aerodynamic design than previous generations. The car was built on the Ford Fox platform and was available in three trim levels: Base, LS, and XR-7. It came in either a two-door coupe or a four-door sedan version. The car was powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine, producing 112 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque. The engine was paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Standard features included power steering, front disc brakes, and a tilt steering wheel. Optional features like power windows, power door locks, and air conditioning were available. Despite its updated design, the 1983 Cougar received mixed reviews from critics and consumers, and it was discontinued in 1986.
